Do you know Doodle JumpKnightmare Tower is a little bit like that, what with the constant jumping and trying to get higher. You can even tilt your tablet to help yourself along, rocking right to move to the right, and left to move to the left. But this game is different and, dare we say, better. You're a knight. You're trying to ascend a tower. You are trying to fly ever higher by bouncing yourself off of enemies that are flying up from below. The better you attack, the swifter you fly. The ascent is exhilarating, but you'll probably eventually fail. No bother. You're constantly earning new and better abilities that allow you to soar ever higher. Warning: this is a tough game to stop playing. P
A Good Match For: More hardcore gamers who are looking for something on their tablet that rewards strategy and reflexes while wrapping it all up in a good bit of monster-slaying and constant leveling up. P
Not a Good Match For: Those who want a long-session game. Your ascents in Knightmare Tower won't last long, so even as iPad games get a bit longer, this one is going to be over quite quickly again and again.

Titanfall



Xbox and PC game Titanfall was originally prototyped running on a Ratchet & Clank engine
Plus, it's been revealed that an earlier version of the game had you starting in a titan, only to become a pilot as an "extra life."

Price and Zampella were already friends and were both in similar situations, working on games to be published by Electronic Arts. (Insomniac's game was the co-op shooter Fuse). Because of their existing friendship and because Price wanted to help Respawn succeed, he offered up the engine, which powered Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, and Respawn prototyped Titanfall--then known as R1--for a period of one year using that technology.

It's also revealed in the feature that EA offered to let Respawn use the technology behind Lord of the Rings Conquest and The Saboteur from the since-closed studio Pandemic Studios. Respawn also considered using Epic Games' Unreal Engine, but decided against it because developers feared they would not be able to achieve 60fps in that engine. EA finally switched over to Valve's Source Engine, which runs the final version of Titanfall.

The Final Hours of Titanfall also touches on many other interesting facts about the game's development. It's revealed in the the feature that after learning the specs for Microsoft's Xbox One, Respawn reached out to Sony in hopes of finding out how the PlayStation 4 would compare. However, Sony was not willing to talk specs yet and instead offered to help Respawn make a PlayStation Vita version of Titanfall. That, of course, never happened.

We also learn in the Titanfall feature that the version of the game you know and (maybe) love today wasn't always structured as you now know it. In fact, in an earlier version of Titanfall, players would begin rounds in titans, only to transition to a pilot as an "extra life." But in February 2013, just 13 months out from release, Repsawn changed the game so that you began as a pilot and could call in your titan from above, leading to the name Titanfall.

The full Final Hours of Titanfall hits on subjects like the rift between Respawn founders Jason West (who is no longer with the company) and Vince Zampella that grew as a result of the massive Call of Duty lawsuit, Titanfall's prototyped single-player mode, and how the game came to be an Xbox and PC exclusive. It also features some neat concept art of the various in-development versions of Titanfall, and shows off some early prototype videos of the game.

Into the Dead is a somewhat unique take on the classic zombie genre; think Temple Run and The Walking Dead combined. The game looks phenomenal, using minimal color and a bleak setting, the grass and zombies seem to pop off the GS3's display.

The controls are pretty simple, and you even have a few different sets you can choose from (Tilt, Touch, Thumbstick, Thumbstick Mirrored). I found that Tilt was the most comfortable for me.

Along the way, you can collect coins and unlock and equip perks that will help you survive the run.

All in all, Into the Dead is a great, free game that you can seriously play for a long time. Beyond just beating your personal best in survivor mode, you can unlock Massacre and Hardcore modes.

     Specific Monster Balance Changes

    •     Reduced damage of Flicker Strike when used by monsters.
    •     Reduced damage of Spark when used by Goat Shamans and Amarissa, Daughter of Merveil.

    •     Reduced Chatters' chill duration and damage a little.
    •     Merveil's Attendants now inflict the Temporal Chains curse when they hit.

    Bug Fixes




    •     Fixed a bug where the client would display an infinite loading screen if you joined an instance where a player on your friends list was currently located, if you had just been in a party with them.
    •     Fixed a bug where a portal would not update its description when the owner recast it from another area.
    •     Fixed two problems that prevented Whirling Blades from hitting its targets correctly.
    •     Items now always hit the ground when dropped by player death in Cut-throat leagues, rather than being occasionally deleted due to lack of room. The same is now also true for items dropped from chests.
    •     The limits on minions, traps and totems now come from the player's limits. This means you can't violate your maximum number of these by summoning them through traps.
    •     Fixed the ability for traps to trigger on friendly NPCs.
    •     Fixed a client crash that could occur when using Lightning Strike while standing on a patch of fire.
    •     Fixed a bug with the diminishing returns calculation of Increased Item Quantity and Increased Item Rarity so that they are now additive with the player bonus rather than the monster bonus.
    •     The damage reduction estimation for level 60 onwards is now done using Maelstrom of Chaos monsters rather than the normal progression.
    •     Finally fixed the exploding Spawns that could generate as magic or rare.
    •     Fixed some problems with shields having the wrong graphics.
    •     Fixed a bug with the damage dealt by Ice Nova while in trap form.
    •     Fixed a server crash that could occur if a monster used Lightning Strike on a target that had damage reflection such as Tempest Shield.
    •     Fixed a rare bug that would cause you to take damage from Puncture indefinitely until you left the instance.
    •     Changed how the minimap works so that less memory fragmentation problems occur.
    •     Prevented some stuttering when items were seen for the first time in a session.
    •     Fixed a bug where the game has trouble running from a directory that contains non-English characters.
    •     Fixed a bug that could cause the patcher to misreport the size of the data to download.
    •     Fixed all bugs where summoned monsters could yield experience.
    •     Fixed a bug where being punctured multiple times would cause incorrect behaviour.
    •     Totems using percentage reserve skills with blood magic now correctly base the cost as a percentage of their life rather than yours.
    •     When a player dies in a hardcore league, they no longer have an invalid portal open.
    •     Removed sunbeams from the church ruin, now that it's raining there.
